Vonage subscription was entered on 4/5/2005 when moving to new residence and after broadband was working. An adapter was purchased at CompUSA (a marketing/promotional partner) with rebate. Previous service was done with vonage.com because of their virtual phone number availability which was useful for business and personal use.

There was a problem with that account as they initially refused to terminate account on moving and attempted to charge a 'back end' termination fee. There was a problem in the the advertised rebates and promotions were not honored by vonage.com and CompUSA as advertised and it took 6 months (not the reported 60 days) to resolve this.

In addition, charges totalling about $40 were made to the account which were not authorized or prior advised. This was done because vonage.com maintains credit/debit card numbers and does billings automatically and SOLELY on what THEY determine is billable, whether the charges were allowed or for services contracted for or used. vonage.com never settled or responded to these claims by call to 800#, email, or mail.

This was reported to the card issuer who also did not handle the dispute or do anything. Based upon the small amount, it was dropped. On 3/31/2006, on terminating my residential lease (and broadband connection), I called and spoke with a person at vonage.com (the tollfree number) to terminate the account effective 4/5/2006 billing.

This was followed up with written letter to the proper address, to again report billing errors (without response), and to terminate service. The letter had return address and was never returned to sender. On and after 6 April 2006, vonage.com has billed twice (which charges were charged back by the card issuer) fraudulently for a properly and timely canceled account, being contacted several times to the proper number(s) by phone, in writing to the proper address, and by email.

As of today's date, 6/30/06, harassing billing emails are still being sent (each one with a response, another harassing automated response from vonage.com, and, sometimes, yet another 'person' email response that says the account has never been canceled (which it HAS verbally as required, in writing (as required by contract conditions), and by email.

This is now subject to legal action and will be reported to law enforcement as of today as controls exist on unsolicited email and multiple provable attempts have been made at fraudulent billing. I suppose this is the way that vonage.com needs to gain revenue to pay for expensive marketing on TV.
